Journeys further afield

We’ve just managed to link in with a nationwide same day service at very competitive rates. Prices are charged on an A to B mileage basis. What does this mean for you? It means that if you have goods further afield in the UK which you urgently need moving then we can get it done much faster. For instance if you have goods in Leeds that you need to get back to Redhill then we can usually get them collected within an hour and brought directly back to you. The time saved would be about 4 hours as the driver wouldn’t be leaving from here to go to Leeds with an empty van. Another instance where you would benefit would be if you have goods which need moving urgently for example from Manchester to Birmingham. Again we could usually get them collected within an hour and taken straight to Birmingham. Not only would this save you time but it would also save you money. Until now we’d have driven from here to Manchester, collected the goods, and then taken them to Birmingham. We’d have had to charge from here to Manchester whereas this would now be charged on an A to B basis. Give us a call for more information on this new added service.

It’s a wrap

One of the things our clients regularly ask us about it packaging. It’s vital that goods are really well wrapped if they are going to travel round the world changing hands many times en route. The secret is not to cut corners – things can never be overwrapped. Make sure you have a sturdy box, if possible, with bubble wrap around fragile items. Make sure the box is securely taped shut with heavy duty tape, marked ‘Fragile’ if necessary and, most importantly of all, clearly addressed. For larger items which won’t fit in a box make sure there is plenty of heavy duty wrapping material all around – preferably cardboard but bubble wrap if that’s all you’ve got available. Use plenty of tape to hold everything in place and particularly ensure that any protruding edges are well protected. We are always happy to advise if you’re unsure and we’ve usually got some tape on board our vehicles for emergencies.

Around The World

Something we’ve been doing more of over the last few months is sending goods around the globe. We’ve sent goods to a real variety of destinations such as Qatar, Dubai, USA, Canada, Singapore, Malta, Costa Rica and of course nearer destinations in mainland Europe. We use a variety of different agents all of whom are experts in export and import, and because we send so many shipments each month we get better rates which we can pass on to our clients. Why not give us a call and see what rate we can get for you to send your items abroad. Also I know it’s only August but what about your Christmas presents that need to go overseas? If you send them early enough then we can send them via Road & Sea which is even cheaper in most cases.

On Course

Frank Brown Delivers on the golf courseAs a keen golfer I was very interested when a company called UK Golf Signs asked me if we wanted to sponsor a hole at Reigate Hill Golf Course. So from Monday 16th August onwards, if you happen to be playing there, have a look at Hole Number 9 (as shown above).

The Road To Hell

The beauty of the British transport system is its unpredictability. Just when you’re already on a tight deadline the M25 does its worst. Last Friday one of our clients asked us to deliver some goods to Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. Our driver collected about 3.30pm and had to be there by 6pm when the chap was leaving. Not normally a problem! Anyway the M25 was an absolute nightmare and Keith, our driver, arrived at 6.03pm. Of course the chap had long since left and the place was all locked up. Keith wandered around trying to find someone, phoned me, I phoned our client etc etc. Anyway fortunately the cleaner turned up and very kindly agreed to sign for the boxes and put them in reception for the weekend. Our lucky day!

We will of course always try our best to deliver at the first attempt but unfortunately traffic problems do of course occur from time to time but we will always keep clients informed.

Urgent Nationwide Deliveries

Do you need to get something urgently to the other end of the country? Sending goods directly nationwide is what we specialise in – and it’s not as expensive as you may think! For example Redhill to Birmingham is only £162 + VAT and your goods should be there within 3 hours, traffic permitting of course. If you’ve got an engineer waiting on site for an urgent part, or a customer who needs something desperately then we think it represents excellent value for money. Maybe you’ve got urgent documents needed elsewhere in order to close a large deal. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to help. Remember you can find out the price using our calculator at the top of our home page.

Mercedes Sprinter added to fleet

We are pleased to announce that we now have a long wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter van on our fleet. This van is able to take 4.2 metres in length and up to 1600kgs. It can take three normal sized pallets with ease. We are offering it a very competitive rate of just an extra 50% above our normal advertised rates for small vans. Please give us a call if you’d like to book this van as we are sure it will prove popular.

Passport Same Day

Have you ever needed a new passport really urgently? I discovered yesterday that you can get a new passport the same day and you don’t even need to leave your office. Make an appointment at the Passport Office in Eccleston Square, London SW1 and then arrange for one of our couriers to act as your agent. Yesterday I did just that and took the relevant forms, photographs and payment from a client in Dorking, lodged the application and then waited four hours for the passport to be ready for completion. By the close of office hours I was back at the client with his new passport ready for another ten years of travelling the globe.

Signwriting

Many of you who’ve seen our flagship vehicle recently may have noticed that the signwriting was starting to look a bit worn. The van is only two years old but unfortunately the quality of the original signwriting seems to have been fairly poor. Anyway, earlier this week I took my van along to Bel Signs in Crawley and a very helpful young man called Darren spent most of the day replacing all the signwriting. I have to say that the quality of his work is brilliant, and more surprisingly he actually charged us less than we were charged two years ago by the people who did the job originally. This is also taking into account the fact that Darren had to take all the old signwriting off the van before he started – which took him several hours.

So if anyone wants any signwriting done, whether it’s a vehicle or a shop front, have a look at Bel Signs. I feel like I’m driving around in a new van now!

On Your Feet

One of the luxuries Gill and I treat ourselves to every few weeks is a reflexology treatment. We visit a lady called Georgina who lives between Godstone and Bletchingley. I went along last night and my feet felt wonderful afterwards. I am always amazed how George (as we call her) can identify what problems I’m experiencing, such as a bad back, just from massaging my feet. The treatment will also help to ease most other bodily ailments.

I must admit that before my first visit I was somewhat sceptical and also worried that having ticklish feet would be a problem. I needn’t have worried!

My feet still feel wonderfully relaxed today and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. If you feel you’d like to give it a try let me know and I’ll happily pass over George’s details.
